Astrid
Astrid first came to the attention of FP when the band were performing one of their first ever gigs supporting Belle and Sebastian at London's Union Chapel. Originating from the Isle Of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Astrid went on to become the first ever album signing to Fantastic Plastic way back in 1999. Formed by William Campbell (vocals, guitar), Charles Clark (vocals, acoustic guitar), Gareth Russell (bass) and Gary Thom (drums), the band recorded their debut album Strange Weather Lately with Edwyn Collins producing and relocated to live in Glasgow. In support of their debut release Astrid toured UK and Europe extensively as well as playing in USA several times appearing at both CMJ in New York and SXSW in Austin. One of Astrid's debut festival appearances is documented in their B side recording of Glastonbury Song! In 2002 Astrid recorded their second album "Play Dead" in Cava Studios, Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan. Just after this recording drummer Gary Thom departed the band and was replaced by Neil Payne. William Campbell is currently writing solo material and also collaborating with some Nashville writers. He returned to FP in for the release of "Local Man Ruins Everything" a collaboration with Scots poet Kevin MacNeil. Gareth Russell is playing bass with Idlewild, Neil Payne plays drums for Texas and Charlie Clark has a new band called Our Lunar Activites.
