Guillemots are a 4 piece band based in London. They are currently signed to Geffen Records and are recording their 3rd album for release via Universal in 2010.
Fantastic Plastic released Guillemots debut EP “I Saw Such Things In My Sleep EP” to much critical acclaim in Sept 2005 on limited edition CD and 10” vinyl. This was followed in Dec 2005 by the original release of “Trains To Brazil” also on limited edition CD and 10” vinyl. Guillemots debut mini album “From The Cliffs” was released by FP in March 2006 initially in Ireland only but was soon licensed and available in USA, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Europe.
Guillemots have made numerous live performances since they first appeared in the music world. The Autumn 2006 tour saw the live "premiere" of many of their songs, including "By the Water" (which features double-bassist Aristazabal Hawkes on vocals), "She's Evil" (which features MC Lord Magrão on vocals) and the rarely performed "Cats Eyes" from their debut EP. One of their most notable live performances to date came in October 2006 at the first BBC Electric Proms when the band performed four tracks from their “Of the Night EP” with a full orchestra. This included a rare (and somewhat unusual) performance of the song "Bad Boyfriend" where the entire band donned animal masks.
During 2006 Guillemots moved to Polydor Records for the release of their debut long player “Through The Window Pane” which was later nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band played their first Top of the Pops performance to promote the Made Up Love Song #43 single. It was a memorable show: guitarist MC Lord Magrao played his guitar to a set of mirrors, reflecting his performance back to the crowd! Guillemots were also nominated for a Brit Award for Best Newcomers.
Guillemots latest album, Red was released in March 2008. preceded by the single Get Over It which became Guillemots' highest placed single, reaching number 20 in the UK Singles Chart while Red reached number 9 in the UK Album Chart .
